The South Korean shipbuilding industry is experiencing a remarkable boom, with the three major companiesHyundai Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industrieshiring over 4,000 new employees last year alone. This represents a staggering increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year, showcasing the industry’s recovery and growth potential. Hyundai Heavy Industries led the charge by employing 1,500 new workers, followed by Daewoo with 1,300 and Samsung with 1,240.

This shortfall has resulted in the payment of substantial employment burden fees, amounting to billions of won.
